If you haven’t tried it yet, I highly recommend playing through Digital. Even if you completely missed the late eighties/early nineties BBS scene, the decidedly retro feel of the game interface somehow inserts itself into the narrative of the game. I find similarities in retro games, if done well and to full effect, to the impressionist movement. I really feel like games are starting to become a serious art medium and Digital is a great example of that.
I can’t say much about the plot without giving it away. However, it is primarily a love story. Although you will find it circling around other themes such as computer viruses, and early hacker culture. For those of us who remember those heady days it’s a wonderful trip down memory lane. I think it is possible that a game like Digital can also bring back that history and show it to new generations who might’ve missed out.
Overall a great game and I really recommend you try it. It makes me miss my old Amiga. And LotRD.
