Goodbye Canadian Coalition Government?

“We are putting this government on probation,” Ignatieff said. “Should Mr. Harper fail to satisfy the expectations of Canadians we will be ready to defeat him.”

What is wrong with this country’s political leaders? This isn’t progress, it’s practically mutiny! The above quoted statement from Ignatieff tells me only one thing: the Liberals, NDP, and Bloc Quebecois will not form a coalition so long as Harper’s Conservatives bow to their whims. That isn’t a compromise; it’s a threat. One that we Canadians do not need to put up with. The coalition supporters have to accept that the Conservatives were voted in fair-and-square. I don’t particularly like it any more than anyone else, but it’s true.

A compromise would entail working with the Harper government for positive change rather than threatening to derail the train when you don’t get your way. This is democracy people. Deal with it.
